Phase IV is the 22-acre westward expansion of Waterfront Park between 10th and 14th streets along the river.

This $50 million project will provide additional open space and exciting amenities along the river, expanding access and increasing opportunities for new experiences and activities.  An improved RiverWalk and the planned extension of River Road will connect the current park with the Phase IV expansion.

Phase IV will celebrate the rich local history and heritage of the area. The site was the location of Louisville’s first frontier fortress, Fort on Shore, and later a heavy industrial site. You can learn more about the historical significance of the Phase IV site as well as the various components of the plan in the Conceptual Master Plan for Phase IV and the updated Phase IV Overview Booklet

A community groundbreaking celebration for the park expansion was held on October 25, 2022, and construction is underway on the first phase, which includes Waterfront Park Playport, a classroom/community meeting space, restrooms, and parking lot.  PlayPort is estimated to open to the public in Spring 2025. Subsequent phases will be constructed as funds are raised.
